ABOUT

Meet Joycelyn — Founder of Peerspective

I’m Joycelyn Alexander, a Certified Peer Support Specialist and Certified Crisis Counselor. I’m also someone who’s lived through the ups and downs of mental health recovery—and come out stronger. I’ve spent the last 16 years in recovery from self-harm, suicidal ideation, alcohol use, and substance use. Along the way, I’ve worked the Warmline and answered calls for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, helping people through some of their darkest moments.

I started Peerspective because I believe no one should have to figure this out alone.

My work isn’t about fixing you. It’s about walking beside you with empathy, insight, and honest support. Peer support isn’t clinical—it’s real, raw, and rooted in shared experience. I offer practical tools, emotional encouragement, and a listening ear that understands without judgment.

Why I Do This

I started Peerspective Mental Health Consulting because I believe in the power of story. When someone sits across from you and says, “Me too,” it changes everything. This work is about more than surviving—it’s about rebuilding, reimagining, and reclaiming your life.

Recovery isn’t a destination. It’s a process. And through peer support, I help people and families walk that path with more confidence, less shame, and a whole lot of hope.

I am living proof that recovery is possible. I’ve known chaos, pain, hope, and healing. My experiences help me connect with others in ways that clinical training alone cannot. Recovery is not linear or one-size-fits-all—but it is real, and it is worth it.
